Photographs have always been
important to me. As a child, my parents had to scrape to make ends meet
with four little mouths to feed and photography was not high on the list.
A childhood photo of me and my siblings is a rare and treasured gift
indeed. Because of this when I reached adulthood, one of my first
purchases was a camera, first the film kind which was sent away and you
didn’t get back for almost two weeks. There were many trips to the mailbox
each day to see if my “treasures arrived” and when they did, I couldn’t
wait to start on my next roll of film. It was an on going process and
always gave me something to look forward to.
After I got married and my husband
and I had children, the picture taking went full throttle as I tried to
capture my babies every move, so I could relive them again, and again. Now
our children are all grown up, my son at age 33 and my daughter at age 30,
and it is truly a blessing to be able to look back at the different stages
of progression of their lives from being infants, to childhood, teens, and
as adults. Now I have two gorgeous grandchildren that I continue to
capture their beauty and growth at a higher level than with my own
children because of technology
I have been married to my husband for
36 years, and in the years of growing up together and watching our little
family march on in time; my own growth has been tremendous. One of the
areas which have blossomed beautifully is my love for nature and of the
outdoors. John Denver’s lyrics of his songs and his own love for nature
were, and still are my inspiration. You can witness this appreciation for
all things beautiful, in my pictures. I have a passion for picture taking
and most of the time, much to the chagrin of my family sometimes; my
camera is my third appendage.
I view photography as a very
important part of history; for memories to cherish, for documentation, or
simply to make a drab wall suddenly come alive with beauty.
How I would love to have had some
tastefully done portraits of my pregnancies with my children. Now; that is
what I do for other couples. I capture that most intimate and special time
when a new life is growing and many changes are taking place with the new
life that will soon enter the world. Pregnancy should be embraced for the
beautiful thing that it is, a woman will never be as radiant as she is as
when bearing a child.
I am fascinated by lines and angles,
pieces of wood, stonework, doors, and railroad tracks. The name I chose
for my business, Black Diamond Photos, is because Black Diamonds can have
diverse meanings such as a symbol for risk takers, a sign of excellence,
or an unconventional and weird idea, anything out of the ordinary. Plus I
love Black and White photos, they take me back to simpler times, and their
starkness appeals to my senses. Whatever the term Black Diamond connotates
to you, I am probably it.
So, if you are looking for someone to
photograph -
please consider me, I would love the
opportunity to meet with you and see if my work appeals to you. I am also
interested in meeting with interior designers whose task is to decorate a
new building, or home.
